ok, let's summarize:

 - the patch is trivial
 - it contains bugs
 - there is code somewhere else to do this right
 - it affects code that is only called when you change the source for
   quick & dirty debugging

sounds to me like discussing this further is a waste of time.  i
hereby withdraw my patch and think of something more useful to
contribute.  (-:
