[darcs-devel] possible source of slowness when applying patches

There is one particular issue.  Namely, David and I had worked on some
patches to fix the somewhat urgent issue434 in the stable branch.
These patches introduced a good number of conflicts when pulled into
unstable (because of the src/ shakeup).  Perhaps it is these that
caused the conflict.

I suppose it's worth repeating your pull experiments up to those patches
and seeing if it's not a lot faster.

(then again, why would a get from a remote repo be any faster?  hmm...
on a tangent, i wonder if it would be useful to have an automatic
checkpoint mechanism of some sort to make non-partial gets go faster)
