[darcs-devel] Both _darcs and .git?!

When I attempt to do a "darcs send" on a repo that was downloaded to a
friend's box, I get this error:

[fbcode at puddlejumper ~/3]$ darcs send --to kc5tja at arrl.net

darcs failed:  Both _darcs and .git

What does this mean, and why does it matter?  BTW:

[fbcode at puddlejumper ~/3]$ find . -iname ".git"
[fbcode at puddlejumper ~/3]$ _

So, no, there is no .git directory anywhere.  ;)
