[darcs-devel] darcs patch: Fixes for Solaris sh in tests: no $(...), test -e, or ...

This is a re-send to fix the problem with using /usr/bin/test on
MacOS.  It's actually simpler than the previous version as it seems
that using the problematic `test -e' wasn't necessary.  Only tested on
GNU/Linux.
