Hmm... this needs some more testing/thinking about. I think I've noticed
it not working in one of my darcs, and anyway, I'd like to understand
what the actual issue is before pushing patches in willy nilly.

Rejecting my patch for now.

I think it's probably worth looking into how we call programs like ssh,
etc; the explanation might lie there.
