Problem solved!
I found this patch already in darcs-unstable:

* Make Exec.lhs not import unneeded Control.Exception functions when compiling on Windows.
It does exactly the same what Will's patch does, which explains
the massive conflict. I'm pushing Edwin's patch to darcs-stable
right now.
