Good idea. Beeing backward compatible is always good

Anyway: The darcs repository url(s) ?? are broken on the website.
There is no http://darcs.net/_darcs directory.

So I can't get latest darcs version?

Using darcs-2.0.0 issuing
darcs unpull --last=300 on the ghc repository made it
eat > 10GB of memory (while optizing the darcs inventory)
I've killed it then.
