1.0.9 fails to pass 'make check' and 'make test_unit' on ppc.

GHC Version:
   Glasgow Haskell Compiler, Version 6.8.2, for Haskell 98, stage 2 booted by
GHC version 6.8.2 on PPC

System: ppc GNU/Linux (Fedora)

Take a 1.0.9 release tarball, apply the patches from
http://bugs.darcs.net/issue544 and run autoconf, make.  It will build just fine

run make check and make test_unit
