I haven't seen a ticket on this yet.

Simon M mentions that the hashed format is slow enough for darcs
whatsnew that he has switched back to the original format.

Presumably, if we fix whatever makes the hashed format significantly
slower, this will also translate to gains for the darcs-2 format.  It
would be useful if somebody would check and see if how the hashed
format compares with darcs-2.

If only there was more work going on with the maybench ([darcs]
benchmarking) project...
