I don't know about other RCSs. There are plans
to fix this in darcs the next time there is a
significant change to the repo format - when
we implement DB-backed repos.

Mmm, let's see. Samba handles this issue
very well, with many flexible options. Classical
NFS just doesn't work at all on Windows.
AFS - don't know, but my guess is that it works
OK. Anything else?

Well, I guess it depends on what app you use
to extract. That is not standard, as it would be
on a Unix platform.

I just tested 7zip on Windows, and it works great.
I think WinZip is also good.
