You could potentially consider trying to help improve this part of the
build system... working on this is essentially all I did for version
2.0.2, and it took me quite a while just to get it working as well as
it is.  Unfortunately, there are quite a few ways to build darcs, so
the situation is different whether you're doing a clean build on a
clean darcs get, building from tarball, or building from an older
darcs that has pulled a new tag.  You'll have to be much more explicit
than you were, if you want to provide a helpful bug report.

But since I'm not going to be working on this for at least a month, if
you want something fixed, the best way to do so is to fix it yourself.
 The second-best is to provide a bug report that is sufficiently
detailed so that someone else can reproduce the bug.  You could even
try reproducing it yourself!
