Hmm!  If I recall correctly, we introduced that test because David did
not have a recent enough version of bytestring (he was using 6.6).
But it is odd, because I think I was just using the one which came with
GHC 6.8 :-/

What a relief! Yes, definitely worth fixing that overly scary-looking
output.
