It all ultimately boils down to use case, doesn't it?  If I'm a 
beta-tester of your product, asking me to copy an unfamiliar file for 
your bug tracking is just as meaningless to me, personally, as asking me 
to copy and paste some seemingly random collection of numbers.  In such 
a use case there isn't a strong benefit for one over the over, is there?

Aside: But I realize that I might be a little unconventional in my 
general disdain for revision numbers.  I personally would rather copy 
and paste more interesting bits of trivia than some auto-enumerated 
number or hash.  That's why my reStructuredText-based markup for 
cross-references in Darcsforge looks like this:

:issue:`2007-May-31 better-rss-feeds`
:patch:`2007-Jun-06 blog-verbosified-rss-feed-truncate-archive-pages`
