I can't reproduce this here, but here's a patch that prevents
DateTester from being compiled by "make darcs", and might also fix the
problem you're having with QuickCheck being built unnecessarily.
PS: I wish I had thought of this before some of the earlier -p trivial
patches.

I'm sorry this makes UNIT_FILES so ugly.
The big advantage of this is that it lets me rename .lhs files without
editing the GNUmakefile in the same patch -- thereby avoiding some
icky conflictors.
