dvc started life as an interface for tla (arch), and was later
generalized to other dVCSs.  It's Darcs support has always been poor
(relative to other dVCSs), and the manual seemed very tla-ish when I
last looked about twelve months ago ("What the hell is a star merge?  I
just want to darcs pull!")

These factors meant that I never understood what dvc actually did, let
alone how to use it.  Probably I need to watch over someone else's
shoulder (as they use dvc) to get an idea.
