The darcs manual from the web page states "[...] darcs can only use 
scp to write to a remote file system."  I notice that this is not the 
whole truth.  When pushing, darcs uses ssh to log into the remote 
system and starts a darcs executable there.  In fact, things break if 
there is no darcs on the remote system.
