I was on Mac OS X with the latest and greatest darcs 1.0.2+ (sorry, 
exact-version not currently available).

I did "mkdir baz ; cd baz ; darcs get otherhost:~/".  Afterward there 
was a _darcs directory in baz but no files.  But then I saw that the 
files had been put into my home directory on this host!
