[darcs-devel] darcs patch - remove libcurl dependency

Eric,

Thanks for your feedback. I'll make the code changes suggested (if the
patch goes forward).

I did some profiling and the performance difference looks negligible.
Dowloading the HTTP library from darcs.haskell.org 10 times using the
latest stable branch vs. mine produced about a 10 second difference in
total running time.
