Ok, I'm forking a new issue off issue842

Doing something like

 for i in _darcs/patches/*.gz; do zcat $i > /dev/null; done 2> crc-errors

Reveals the following errors.

Is it worthwhile for us to pursue this, i.e. try and figure out (a) how such a
thing could have happened and (b) if it's bad for darcs in any way?
