If I understand correctly, Ganesh is work on this, so I'm assigning to him.

Some related bugs:
 * issue291  - edit file being recorded during record time
 * issue1174 - common use case of being able to break hunks up by whitespace
 * issue126  - [this bug] split hunk boundaries

I'm also tacking on the Git tag :-P because this is something Git can do that we
can't.  Of course we should aim to be better than Git by having a well
thought-out user interface that you don't have to "learn", just use.
