Making Ganesh nosy on this because it's his idea (see issue1760).

We've checked with David to see if there was any reason why we might not 
want to do this, but he could not recall.  So I think we've made our 
best effort and should just go ahead and implement this.

Is this one worth nominating for Darcs 2.6?
