Davidsarah, thanks.  I'd completely forgotten about the "invalid 
argument" error trying to scrutinise this bug.

Also people following this list should take note of the recurring 
"VirtualBox shared folders" as a common use case.  It should also make 
it a bit easier for us to reproduce, as less exotic.
