The trouble here is that "r2" has a somewhat messed up "pending". The
symptom here is that darcs whatsnew --summary shows that every line of
reading.html has been modified, which is most certainly not the case.
The slowdown then is caused by darcs' inefficiency in dealing with
conflicts, since all 64 patches in
Mon Aug 2 08:31:47 EDT 2004 zooko at zooko.com
* update to reading.html ,plus reformat
conflict with these spurious local changes.
The inefficiency of darcs in the face of many conflicts like this is a
known (and post-1.0) issue.
However, the bug that led to a messed-up pending should be tracked down.
Do you remember what was done in r2 prior to this? I'm guessing (but am
most likely wrong) something like a file move or remove and an unrevert or
unrecord. It's possible (perhaps likely) that this is another instance of
the bug you reported which I just responded to ("Yikes"), but it would be
comforting to know what caused this oddness in r2.
