Well, his experiences mirror mine. And, as I said before, I've had ext3
corrupt hard disks on three different distributions (Mandrake, Gentoo, and
Debian) on four different types of hardware (3 different laptop vendors and a
desktop system), on both SCSI and IDE drives. While I did have a filesystem
corruption with ReiserFS when it was in early development in the late 90's, I
haven't had any problems with it since.
So, I wouldn't call this FUD. Nothing is more annoying that having data
destroyed by the filesystem, and people form strong opinions -- even stronger
than usual -- when it comes to filesystems, and I warn people away from ext3
every chance I can get.
But, this is only pertinent to darcs insofar as darcs might be able to take
advantage of acid support in ReiserFS4. Does darcs have to be
ReiserFS4-aware to use these features? I know that ReiserFS4 allows
arbitrary metadata to be attached to any file node, and that files can also
be directories, but I don't know much about the database-ish aspects of it.
