Arch's standard-date is actually what darcs expects, just with a few meat
around it.  Just strip it and it works.  See attachment for patch.

BTW, is there any way to globally set the author that darcs can default to? 
It's exhausting to type it in every time I test (or use) such scripts or
initialize new trees.
