No, repo1 is not symlink, but yes, it is located in symlinked tree. E.g.
concrete situation looks:

thinkpad:~$ cd arch/devel/
thinkpad:~/arch/devel$ darcs get $HOME/arch/devel/mico-devel-darcs-repository test-repo-setup
Copying patches...
..............................
Finished getting.
thinkpad:~/arch/devel$ ls -la test-repo-setup/_darcs/prefs/
total 16
drwxrwsr-x 2 karel karel 4096 Nov 21 20:54 .
drwxrwsr-x 7 karel karel 4096 Nov 21 20:54 ..
-rw-rw-r-- 1 karel karel 281 Nov 21 20:54 binaries
-rw-rw-r-- 1 karel karel 274 Nov 21 20:54 boring
-rw-rw-r-- 1 karel karel 0 Nov 21 20:54 motd
thinkpad:~/arch/devel$ pwd
/home/karel/arch/devel
thinkpad:~/arch/devel$ pwd -P
/home/karel/usr/src/arch/mico-dev
thinkpad:~/arch/devel$

The most important are last two commands.

Cheers,
Karel
