Thanks for the info.

I'm now writing a darcs wrapper script. After doing a 'darcs initialize'
it looks for a file /usr/local/etc/darcs/boring and if found it is used to
overwrite _darcs/prefs/boring

Using a wrapper script I also can have a _darcs/prefs/execute to care for
the execution bits.
