The trouble is that there is no way to know if this will ever complete.  :(
It is indeed a serious problem, and most often, the best choice is to work
around the problem by avoiding the conflict somehow.

Using pull rather than push is better in that at least you wont have
stranded processes running continuously.  Do you have any idea what might
be causing a conflict in your push? (And again, it's better to test it with
a pull, as there's less that can go wrong that way.)
