Someone told me that I probably have a file with the same name as a
dir.  I'm not aware of this, and can't find it.  I'd really like to be
able to continue using darcs... surely someone could help me with
this.

I would add that using nasty tones to discourage newcomers does
nothing for the darcs community.  Darcs only grows when the pros hear
about the difficulties that newcomers keep on stumbling into.  I
assume that everyone here has a sincere interest in seeing darcs
continue to blossom, and this can only happen when there is outside
input.  History shows that communities that close themselves to fresh
ideas - yes, often from the uninitiated - stagnate and die out.
