It would be nice. One problem with your interface though: dependencies
are a DAG, not a tree. Patches can have multiple 'parents'.

This is true! And this is obviously what I have missed in my design. I
feel really stupid that I have forgotten about such fundamental thing.

I have updated my desing thought web page to reflect that tree is not
so perfect solution after all.
