I personally just copy all the patches; say to konqueror that it should not 
overwrite already existing files (so only the new patches are overwritten)
And as a last action I copy the inventory file over.

Fully agreed.  I'd like to use kfmclient (part of KDE) which instantly gives 
me access to about 50 different protocols.
