If you only need synchronisation and not versioning, I suspect you
would be much better off with Unison. It's basically a bidirectional
rsync with a database of file hashes and a nice interface (batch, text
interactive, or GUI). I've used it quite happily with trees tens of
gigabytes in size, and it works fine with arbitrary graphs of systems
to synchronise.
