That's a good idea in principle, but it can mean waiting several months
for an OS upgrade. At least with Mandriva, many packages don't have
"stable" binary releases except every six months or a year when the OS
is upgraded.

I use Mandriva on the desktop and FreeBSD on the server, and they have
both have darcs 1.0.2 binaries.
