This is true. XML output of darcs is much more of use than input.
This is even more important as darcs command interface seems to change
once in a while and XML output may be a more stable making result
parsing a lot easier and not so prone to errors. And even if new
features are added to XML they may not introduce any errors to
existing solutions.
