I am so lost.  Might I suggest we summarise this discussion and all 
proposals for subrepositories so far on the darcs wiki?

Maybe a little outside-in would be useful.  That is, on the the wiki 
page, we could begin with what we want using subrepositories to be like 
(what abilities we ought to have) and below plunge into the gory 
details?
