A simple variant of this approach might be just to have
a single 'cut-off' line like

  Ignore-everything-from-this-line-down-used-by-darcs-only

And so

Ignore-everything-from-this-line-down-used-by-darcs-only
patch-salt:
patch-version:
etc...
