I'm synchronizing about 2300 files, patches folder containing about 10
MB and pristine tree size about 50 MB. But my files are not huge, only
max 4MB. I have no speed problems, but you should benchmark your own use
case yourself.

To my surprise, darcs 1.0.9 does not delete files from patches folder
when you obliterate them. [developers, comment this please]. But you can
delete the patch files if you dare, or you can pull the old repo into a
new, empty repo.
