Dear darcsers,

While frosty weather grabs hold of the American east coast and northern
Europe, it is also time to start freezing the darcs code for the approaching
2.4 release.

More or less following existing practice and the guidelines on
http://wiki.darcs.net/Development/MaintainerTips, we will have a two-week
soft freeze, followed by a two week deep freeze, followed by the release.

The start of the soft freeze (day N) will be Thursday December 31st.
On Sunday January 3rd (N+3), beta 1 is tagged and released
On Thursday January 14th (N+14), the release branch is deep
On Sunday January 17th (N+17), beta 2 is tagged and relased
On Sunday January 24th (N+24), rc1 is taggd and released
On Saturday January 30th (N+30), final is tagged and released

During the soft freeze, only fixes for serious issues and patches achieving
release targets will be pulled to the release branch.

During the deep freeze, only release-critical bugfixes will be pulled.

You should be able to find the release branch on
http://darcs.net/releases/branch-2.4 .
