Hi Thomas, another quick reply since I haven't seen it addressed. Yes, 
patch-tag should detect and prevent inconsistencies. The repo may 
continue to work, mostly, and repair will fix it up later, but if it 
inconsistencies are appearing, something is wrong. Better to detect and 
resolve that early.
