That would have made a big different in a lot of cases of which I am
aware.
Darcs would be much improved simply by passing through all stdout and
stderr so that the user can see whatever ssh chooses to say. An even
better improvement would be for darcs to selectively filter out
certain things that ssh says which the user never cares about. But
nobody is planning to implement that latter improvement, and the
first improvement is easy, so it should be done.
