[darcs-users] Autoconf broken in 2.3?

This was always painful.  I think you have to do a make maintainer-clean
and remove the release/STATE files.

But since we would just be hard-coding version numbers, we can just blow
away the whole release/STATE mechanism altogether, presumably.
