Bootstrapping from .hc files *should* work again with ghc 6.11, but
I didn't try it yet. I hope to get my hands dirty during the next
few days, but since the next stable version of ghc (6.12) will
probably not released before october, I still would have to backport
the new build system to ghc 6.10. That would be a really nice
exercise for me actually using darcs for real ;-)

Yes. The only alternatives would be to provide precompiled binaries
(which is ugly, imho) or to maintain several versions of ghc in the
ports tree (which is a maintainance nightmare).
