I downloaded http://darcs.net/releases/darcs-1.0.9.tar.gz, built it with
ghc-6.6.1, and confirmed this.

For me it only took 11 Mb of total memory, but really it's the same
overall.  Darcs 2.3.0 is taking over two orders of magnitude more memory.
It took, 1903 MB on my machine.

So, this regression is much worse than I had initially realized.  I guess
I'll make a new bug ticket for this regression and cite some of this.
