it *is* part of the header data.

obs-month refers to the definition in rfc822, which is:

     month       =  "Jan"  /  "Feb" /  "Mar"  /  "Apr"
                 /  "May"  /  "Jun" /  "Jul"  /  "Aug"
                 /  "Sep"  /  "Oct" /  "Nov"  /  "Dec"

the reason it is referred to as obs-month is because they changed the
grammar and have a new meaning for 'month'
