[Evolution] show birthdays in calendar?

no, you're not special, it's a known bug :-) It seems when upgrading, we
don't detect very well the already created groups and sources, and so in
some cases we recreate them. I haven't experienced that for a few weeks,
but I did once and it seems some other people are seeing also this.

The best thing you can do is to remove the extra groups with
gconf-editor.
