Aha, brilliant! Thanks Milan.

Ok, with a bit of poking around I can find out how to access address
books from LO. In Evolution, is there a way to extract contacts from
the current view into a new address book? It's easy to see how to copy
*all* addresses, or just the current one but I want all addresses with
a certain feature, category being the easiest one to imagine.

For anyone who is interested, LO's "Exchange-Database" option shows
Evolution-Local as a database and within that it shows address books.
When selected the mailmerge facility allows access to all the fields in
the Evolution contact page. There's also a place to set LO's address
book to an Evolution one, I'm not sure what that's about.
