[Evolution-users] Using Evolution to post(!) to a newsgroup

Hi!

I'm trying to replace 40tude Dialog by Evolution as a newsreader because
the former is rather outdated now and its Wine-configuration is a bit of
a pain.

After configuring the basic access details (more or less following the
Evolution manual, rather self explaining menus and
http://ensode.net/evolution_newsgroups.html) I was successfully able to
import old 40tude messages in mbox format, receive the list of available
groups and subscribe to them.

However even after spending considerable time, I failed to actually
_post_ to a newsgroup. None of the SMTP sending options mentioned in
https://help.gnome.org/users/evolution/stable/mail-account-manage-usenet-news.html.en
worked. I even doubt that NNTP requires SMTP to post messages at all.

Keep in mind that my favourite NNTP server at News.CIS.DFN.DE (see
http://news.cis.dfn.de/config.html) either uses port 563 for SSL
encrypted connections and port 119 for standard connections. To post a
message it requires authorization via AUTHINFO before using the POST
command as described in RFC 3977
(https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc3977#page-56).

Is there any HowTo or other information on how to accomplish this?

Thanks a bunch for your help.

Volker
