[Evolution-users] Evolution spends a lot of time synchronizing old messages with Yahoo

The likely cause of my recent debacle with Evolution is my lack of
patience.  
Evolution often takes more than an hour
> Downloading new messages for offline mode in "Yahoo:INBOX"
when there are generally less than a dozen new, changed or deleted
messages in the account.
On one such occasion when I wanted to leave home, I forced shutdown of
the computer, which presumably corrupted Evolution's data store.
Why does Evolution need so much time to synchronize a small number of
changes?
How can I prevent this?
