What do you mean by "forced shutdown"? Did you just turn the computer
off without doing a full OS shutdown?

It shouldn't - and doesn't for everyone else (there would be a lot more
noise here if it were the case!)

How do you access the mail? IMAP? POP?
If you turn off the downloading of all messages does it behave?
