[Evolution-users] Evolution not opening a window in Debian 13 Trixie

I'm running version 3.56.1-1 in Debian Trixie using KDE Plasme version 6.3.6 on Wayland (not X11).
Today it decided to extinguish all its windows, and doesn't open new ones
I ran it from the command line with no options and it reported
(org.gnome.Evolution:11433): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 16:19:37.058: _gtk_css_lookup_resolve: assertion '(((__extension__ ({ GTypeInstance *__inst = (GTypeInstance*) ((provider)); GType __t = ((_gtk_style_provider_private_get_type ())); gboolean __r; if (!__inst) __r = (0); else if (__inst->g_class && __inst->g_class->g_type == __t) __r = (!(0)); else __r = g_type_check_instance_is_a (__inst, __t); __r; }))))' failed
(org.gnome.Evolution:11433): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: 16:19:37.058: g_object_set_data_full: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
(org.gnome.Evolution:11433): Gtk-ERROR **: 16:19:37.058: Can't create a GtkStyleContext without a display connection
after which it's not running.
If I run it using evolution --display=":0"
it reports
(org.gnome.Evolution:15052): Gtk-WARNING **: 16:35:55.940: Only strings supported after ':': \xe9: <Multi_key> <e> <apostrophe> : \xe9
(org.gnome.Evolution:15052): Gtk-WARNING **: 16:35:55.940: Only strings supported after ':': \xe9: <Multi_key> <grave> <e> : \xe9
and it puts an item in the KDE Plasma task bar. Right-click on that box offers a menu with many items, including "New Window" and "Mail" — which don't do anything other than showing a little jumping "evolution" icon for about ten seconds.
I hadn't done any updates, so I don't think it was Debian or Evolution doing this. I suspect Evolution (or somebody else) changed something in a .xyx directory or file, but I have no idea which one to delete — or if I'm expected to edit it I have no idea what to change.
How do I get Evolution working again?
My mail archive is MH format and I don't know if there's another way to read it other than as ugly plain text.
